The perfect...series is intended to help you with some tea preparation basics. This post will focus on water temperature.
Water temperature is a critical element for the perfect cup of tea and contrary to popular belief, one temperature does not fit all. Water that is too hot will burn the leaf removing it‘s fragrance and result in a cup of bitter tea. Below are some easy to follow guidelines for each tea type, but remember, each tea is unique and so are your taste buds, so feel free to experiment a little.
- White tea: bring water to a boil and then allow the water to rest for 5 minutes before using it.
- Green and yellow tea: bring water to a boil and then allow the water to rest for 3 minutes before using it.
- Oolong tea: bring water to a boil and then allow the water to rest for 2 minutes before using it.
- Black tea: bring water to a boil and then allow the water to rest for 1 minute before using it.
- Pu-erh tea and herbal blends: bring water to a boil and then allow the water to rest for 30 seconds before using it.
